About Add Page Numbers
Adding page numbers to a PDF is one of those small finishing touches that makes a document feel professional — and it's surprisingly tedious to do by hand. pdfmundo's Add Page Numbers tool drops a number on every page (or a chosen subset) in the corner you pick, in the format you pick, starting from any number you want. Useful for binding printed reports, sending out manuscripts that need referenceable pages, or numbering a chapter that's been pulled out of a larger document. Unlike most online PDF tools, pdfmundo does all the work in your browser. Your PDF never travels to a server, never gets stored, and never leaves your device.
Frequently asked questions
- Where on the page do the numbers go?
- You pick — top or bottom, and left, center, or right. Six positions in total. The default is bottom center.
- Can I start numbering from a number other than 1?
- Yes. The starting number applies to the first numbered page. If you start from 5, the first numbered page shows 5, the next shows 6, and so on.
- Can I number only some of the pages?
- Yes. The page range field accepts the same syntax as Split — for example 1-3, 5, 7-9 — to number only those pages. Leave it empty to number every page.
- What number formats are supported?
- Numeric (1, 2, 3), lowercase Roman (i, ii, iii), uppercase Roman (I, II, III), and Page X of N. The Page X of N total reflects the document's total pages, not the count of numbered pages.
- Will the page numbers cover existing content?
- Numbers go at a fixed 40-point margin from the page edge. On most documents this leaves enough whitespace, but very dense layouts may overlap. If that happens, try a smaller font size.
- Does the original PDF quality change?
- No. The page contents are unchanged — we only add a small text element on top.
- What's the maximum file size?
- 50 MB on the free tier. Larger files (up to 200 MB) are supported on Pro.
- Do I need an account?
- No. The tool is completely free to use without signing up.
