About splitting PDFs
Splitting a PDF separates one document into multiple files. You can extract specific pages or ranges to send a chapter without the rest, separate an invoice from a longer report, or organize a long document into smaller pieces. pdfmundo's split tool reads the PDF, copies the pages you specify into one or more new PDFs, and packages them as a ZIP. The split is lossless — pages are byte-identical to the original, with the same fonts, images, and formatting. Unlike most online split tools, pdfmundo does all the work in your browser. Your file never travels to a server, never gets stored, and never leaves your device. This makes it safe for sensitive documents that you'd never want to upload.
Frequently asked questions
- What range syntax does the tool accept?
- Comma-separated ranges like 1-3, 5, 7-9, 12. Each range becomes one output PDF. You can mix single pages and ranges. Whitespace is optional. Em-dashes (1—3) and en-dashes (1–3) are also accepted.
- Can ranges overlap?
- Yes. If you enter 1-3, 2-5, you'll get two PDFs — the first with pages 1-3 and the second with pages 2-5. Page 2 appears in both. This is intentional — you choose what each output contains.
- Is my file safe?
- Yes. Your file is processed entirely in your browser. It never gets uploaded, never gets stored, and never leaves your device. We can't see your file — we don't have access to it.
- Will the split PDFs lose quality?
- No. Splitting is lossless. Pages are copied byte-for-byte from the original PDF. The output retains the same fonts, images, and formatting.
- What's the maximum file size?
- 50 MB for in-browser processing. Larger files require more memory than browsers can reliably handle.
- Do I need an account?
- No. The tool is completely free to use without signing up.
